STAN LEE!

I was watching "HEROES" with my friend last night, and when the part where Hiro was about to get on the bus bound for Las Vegas, I heard a familiar voice and saw a very familiar face!
MR. STAN LEE!

I am such a fan, and although it may be a bit corny, I feel that he is someone who influenced my interest in comics.

So, I just had to look up, to confirm my belief that it was in fact him.
Sure enough, yes, it IS him!

Do you watch this show too?
I find all of it interesting.

We all have different gifts and talents... I like watching what they write for each character.
Although I think some of the gore scenes are a bit much, I tolerate it and enjoy the concept of the story lines.

I started singing bag songs...
I have opened and closed over 300 plastic ziplock bags today and not only am I tired of it. I am now making up plastic bag songs!

NOT ABOUT THE NUMBER OF BAGS- I have probably done more than 300 today as I have been at this for over 10 hours... yes I am SLEEPY! But I JUST made up the song, and have NOT been singing them all day.

Well I just am!
I usually am!
It was sunny, and I LOVE cool weather.
The house is a nice cool temp, it smells clean here, I am very well organized, and
lots of friends have been emailing me today and keeping me company!
The man was at a basketball game in the city, so I had the house to myself ALL day long... swapping out art work and charms!

OK, I am about to go and do the 10 second tidy (you know what this is if you have kids 12 or younger who watched the Big Comfy Couch.

The sun is shining brightly, and I feel so HAPPY.

I woke up really early and went for a walk, and had a fun adventure.

Now, I am sitting here, and I am about to go and get some zines to bind together.
I had a LONG break from working on them.

They were printed a LONG time ago, and I embellished them too.
It has been the cover design that has set me back.

Making my zine is one of my favorite "hobbies"
OK, I have to go and get to it!
I am SO excited!!!!!

I am having a mixed week.
Some great, some good, some annoying, times.
My camera flash is not functioning, so I am not able to take pictures to post on the blog.
*bummer*
BUT I did find my old Hi8, so I will be filming my work, and charms, and STUFF. And then I can snap pictures of the screen, because it is already lit!

Yep, that is me soaked in the rain, happy about all of the awesome artistic finds! We got so many AWESOME costume jewelry pieces. Many wealthy people donate designer clothes, I got BRAND NEW DESIGNER SHOES AND BOOTS! With the tissue paper and price tags still in them! Designer dress shirts with tags, LOTS of antiques, little knick knacks to use in assemblage pieces. Fabrics, designer skirts that I will one day use for the fabric. For now we wear them! There were so many AWESOME vintage items, and we met a fellow artist that I knew from Alma Stoller's FAZ group. I am the giddy girl singing the praises of how good freecycle is for the environment. I have my hair up in a bun, my hair was so wet that day from the heavy rain. My hair is actually VERY long, it goes past my hips.

Gross food market rant, and spending the day organizing the charms for the swap, checking people's items, making sure they are sturdy, not broken.

Took a break and went to a local supermarket to get some stuff... While I was in the store, and this is a reputable chain, I found a jar of olives that had stuff floating in it. upon closer inspection, it was bacterial growth and the seal had been broken. What if a person with poor eye sight bought this?

I brought it to the customer service desk to have them damage it out- the girl just took it and made no comment.
Then we continued on with our shopping (the little gang I was with and me),,, And the next gross out was at the deli counter.
The bunch of us who were shopping were looming in front of the glass case where they keep the prepared foods and everything looked a bit old. So I had asked the guy working behind the counter how long the shelf life was for the salads etc. He said there is no set time limit. "When it looks old."
We were so shocked!
THEY TASTE THE FOOD TO SEE IF IT NEEDS TO BE THROWN AWAY DAILY!!!!

I told the guy that the food can be spoiled even if it smells fine, or if it has no funny taste.
I was standing there dumbfounded at the fact that he was/is willing to be a guinea pig.
We even started talking about the fact that people may be getting sick, food poisoning etc.


I do not order sliced meats often, and eat them even less.

Long story short... the item that I ordered, roasted turkey breast... was something that is usually marked with an expiration date right?

So on the way home we opened it up and passed it around for a snack.
OH NO! IT WAS TANGY!
It burned the mouth like a tangy bit of pineapple!
I made the child that I gave it to spit it out immediately. The kid had a cold and couldn't taste it.
GROSS!

What happens to the little children, who's parents serve this to them for Monday's lunch????
But what I tasted today IS A CRIME!
We drove back to the market, and got our money back.
I cannot believe this.
I live in a "rich" city and the food they sell us is ROTTEN!

This was the last good supermarket around.

I am so annoyed!

Hoping the little one who had the meat does not get a fever or worse, and I hope nothing happens to the rest of us who tasted the meat too. End of market rant-

Glasses.... Job....FUN

So last Friday, after realizing that my eyesight is not as sharp as it once was, I bought a pair of 2.75 reading glasses.

WOW!
Now I can see ALL of the details, finger prints, dust, lint, etc. on my work!
(That is good! I can remove it!)

I have also been sleeping better too.
Less stress in my eyes, and haven't had a headache in almost a week!

I am VERY happy about this!

So... if you think your eyes get blurry, and you get frequent headaches.
Try a pair of glasses!!!!

Well, I tried my hand at a full time job,,, MAKING JEWELRY!

I met a local jewelry designer named Bonnie who has developed some very cool designs, and is a lot of fun to talk to. See her website here- www.calicojunodesigns.com
It looked like something that I could do,yet once I started, I felt that I was not fast enough at this time as I am so out of practice with handling small beads and wire.
(Add to the fact that I should have been wearing glasses!) It took me an hour to make something that "should" take 15 minutes to do, (at a production pace).

I found out that I was not ready for it anyway.
My schedule is already full, and if you have been reading my blog for months, then you know I don't live in a quiet area, so I get woken up OFTEN at night, and early in the morning. So morning work hours are NOT my thing.

The best part of the day when I left the job that I barely held (*laughing*),- I went to visit my husband in the city who was doing a job for MTV networks. (It's not all glamorous. It is not the Times Square location)... Anyway, after he was done with all of the measuring and floor plan stuff, we took a nice walk uptown towards Lincoln Center.
I haven't been there in so long.
It was a happy time, we laughed a lot and passed the place where we first met. It was so cold though, so we didn't linger.
We walked from 55th and 9th to 72nd street (by the 1 and 9 train). I was able to see my FAVORITE building in the city. It is SO ornate and OLD!

I learned that although I am getting older, and time is passing me... it is NOT unkind.
The best part, I can look back and see how far I have come through my life, and how strong I am.

Despite my circumstances, I have a fulfilling life, I am happy with who I am, and LIKE myself!
(I already love myself unconditionally)
I have VERY good friends, a supportive and caring family, and 2 parents who never demanded that I chose a specific career.

How lucky am I just for that?
I am, as my husband puts it,"free".

Each of the charms has more than one layer of ink, and it is a multi dimensional piece.

My love for art supplies... Goes very far. I was gifted *2* sets of SHARPIE markers on Friday, a total of 48 colorful and wonderful waterproof markers.
I have been having SO MUCH FUN making shrink plastic art.
I am SO INSPIRED BY IT!
And so, using them, I have made several tiny gifts for those who have sent me lovely gifts and hand made cards for the holidays.

I also had some time this weekend to unwind and fix a lamp. I LOVE MAKING AND FIXING LAMPS!!!!!
It is something that gives me great JOY!
I wonder if any of you make lamps too?
I used to make little sculptural bases from wood that I cut on the scroll saw, and cut names out in Graffiti style, colored them with acrylic paints, and embellished them with Swarovski stones and hologram glitters.
I forgot how much fun it was for me... I would like to get back into it again.
I really miss wood working, and tinkering with electrical wires and sockets, switches and hardware.

*sigh*

I have SO much to catch up on in life.
So many projects on hold, so many things I want to do.

So little freedom.

Despite the wind and cold temp today, I encouraged myself to get out and take a long walk.

At first it was not so much fun, the wind was whipping, I had to hold my hat with my hand, and hold my coat closed with the other.
It was COLD!!!!

However, I had a purpose and I had to keep going!
The other day, we got a piece of open mail addressed to our home, but the persons whom it was addressed to do not live here... I do not even know who they are.
Since the envelope was already open, I decided to check to see if there was any way to contact the person who sent the mail.
Inside of this open envelope were two money orders for $700.00 total... what is worse, it was someone's rent payment from another state! They must own the property over there and live here.
I tried my best to contact the person it was from, and the persons to whom it was addressed... but all of my phone calls lead to dead ends.
In the end, I decided to just bring it to the post office and have them return to sender noting, that it was received open and undeliverable. I felt better after that.

Well, while at the PO, I got two fun parcels, in the mail, that made my walk feel worth while.

After the post office- I decided to go into a thrift store down the block.
I found 2 long warm scarves,2 great thick and heavy text books, and a SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL STUDDED costume LOADED with seed BEADS and pretty square sequins and plastic beads and glass beads and chaton roses, rivolis. IT WAS A FIND! It was not expensive at all!
The total of everything that I bought with tax was just over $20.00!
WOW!
On my way home, I was checking both ways before crossing the street... when I looked to my right, I noticed some very colorful garbage. I crossed over the street, to take a look. It was in front of a complex where upper middle class people dwell so I was not too shy to take a look! When I got closer I saw that it was just a bunch of empty doll boxes and toy wrappings... HOWEVER<--- Laying right on top of a pile of black bags was an antique ornate large wooden frame!!!
I TOOK IT!
What a treasure!!!
After that, I found a quarter!
*laughs*
It was a fun day in the cold after all!!!

It is good to be nice and warm again!

Today was nice!
I got a chance to hang out with my family, and we had a really great time!

This past week, I decided to share what movies I have been renting... and telling you what *I* think of them! I don't want to tell you about the story line too much...

#1- "Steamboy" a Japanese Manga/Anime film. ****
I think that it was rendered very well!
VERY good detail. A fun ride. Not good for little children due to some strong violence and temper tantrums.
Great for kids in NYC 11 and up, in other parts of the country, maybe 13 an up?

#2- "Fida". An Indian Bollywood style film. ****
It had everything. Love, romance, gangsters, fashion, money, karate, western undertones, dancing, it was like a watered down 007, Karate Kid, The Good The Bad and The UGLY and Untouchables!
One of the characters looks Italian. Yet he is Indian. It is interesting to watch, but we fast forwarded through many of the dance and song routines!
*laughing*
I say, if you can stand subtitles, and you think Ralph Machio aka the Karate Kid was HOT... You will like the lead character in this movie!
**Deep Sigh**
He was also the lead in another film made by the same production company, the other more teeny bopper film is called Ishq Vishq.

#3- "The Big Bounce" OK, I would not recommend this film. *
It is stupid and predictable. Lots of fun for guys and has some good guy type lessons in it. NOT a chick flick, unless you enjoy Owen Wilson a whole lot.
It did have some very good scenes, I for one enjoyed watching the scenery! The SURF! And the houses!

#4- "What a Girl Wants" ****
Very cool for young girls, or girls growing up with their moms.
I loved the film for it's cheesy romanticism. I also adored the architecture, the characters were well played, and I just think that Amanda Bynes is a Cutie Patootie!
A good movie for all ages, and both genders.

#5- "Howl's Moving Castle" - Japanese Anime ****
WORTH THE RENTAL FEE! And I will buy it!
If you have a problem with watching movies that have magic and talk of sorcery, this is not the movie for you.
It is a fantastic journey for the inner child and has VERY GOOD animation scenes. I just loved the gentleness of it. I also loved the Millenary shop! The TRAIN, and many other FUN details!
Good to rent if you have an open mind, and a good heart.

#6- "Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" SEE IT! It is GREAT! ****


That's all the opinions that I have for the films that I have seen over the last 30 days!
Remember think for your self, and do not rely on me to make your choices. I am just *1* person speaking my mind, and I know that my taste, does not represent everyone else's!!!
*HOWEVER* I do have good taste!!! *smiles*

Today marks a VERY special day for me. 1/06 is a great day in my history.
So you would think that I would be *So* excited about the 72 degree weather we are having today. No! Not too excited---worried...and happy that it is not snowing!
I am loving this not freezing my toes off temp., but my heart KNOWS it is wrong! It is a bit worrisome because I cannot stand the hot summer, and if our WINTER is SPRING- What will our summer be like??? Before Christmas we watched An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore. YOU NEED TO WATCH IT!
After seeing that- I feel this may be more like the empty shore, bare ocean floor, right before a Tsunami/Tidal wave hits! (I hope not that would be horrible)
PLEASE----
Rent the DVD, and watch the updates at the end of the film. SHARE IT WITH EVERYONE!
WE ALL*******NEED****** to pay attention.

This is one of the fairy pouches I have made today.
The colors didn't come out as lovely in the photo as they are in person.
The rainbow thread, is mixed with a hologram monofilament and it sparkles like mad! I just love it!

The back view is partially finished, I will be running the stitches all the way to the top, and cross them down vertically

The beads pictured below are about 8-10 mm in size, the mini pouch is less than 1 and a half inches.

So, to finish it- I will be adding silk ribbon flowers to the top flap and a strap to the bag also made of wool. The beaded trimming at the bottom, will be fringed.
I think this may end up as a brooch!

Back in October of '06, on the 16th, I wrote an entry, and wanted to share a picture that I just took of the raw supplies I bought that day-

I just finished a cute mini purse. I crocheted a rectangle, then felted it, in hot water, and sewed it up with variegated threads/rainbow and hologram for added interest and sparkle power!
I am now trying to decide, if it should be a pin, a charm dangle, or a pendant!
Choices choices choices!
I will get back to blogging about it with some pictures in the next few hours!

My hands are soft and silky from rolling the wool, and I am THRILLED with the beads and soft sculptures that I have been getting done. Leaves, berries, miniature fairy purses, bracelets, charms etc. FUN FUN FUN!!!
I cannot wait to sell these!!!
Not sure if I will bring them straight to a store, or peddle them on etsy.
I will post photos of my progress soon.

FELTING! My NEWEST Hobby!
Back in the summer of 2002, I was gifted hundreds of vintage skeins of tapestry, crewel, and embroidery wool.
While cleaning out part of my old basement, I unearthed the treasure and let out a giddy squeal.
YES! I have MANY colors and LOTS of it too!
I can now PLAY with all of this yarn!

When I got it all years ago, I planned on using it to sew.
Long story short... I am FELTING and it is FUN!
Since I just started doing this, I need a lot more practice, but I have made a few things so far!

Had a great weekend!
Part of it was spent hanging around with friends and family... but Saturday afternoon, we had LOTS *O* FUN!Went to Manhattan to hang out with a friend. There was a waterfall in the subway, a pipe must have burst some place.

We started out at Dylan's Candy bar to buy some gifts. Got a gift from the cashier while I was there too, THAT was unexpected and COOL! (No one else did, just me!)

Then we crossed over Lex to Bloomingdales.While we were on the ground floor we saw a VERY handsome Paul Johannson!EVEN BETTER LOOKING IN PERSON!!! WOW! (he plays Dan on One Tree Hill)He saw me smiling at him, and it made him take a second glance at us. He stood across from us watching us smile at him. He kept a straight face, but his eyes let out a hint of "Oh someone recognizes me, are they going to come over here?" We just smiled at him, and then I tried to look at the floor so he could get back to doing whatever it is that he was doing. No one else around us even noticed him. Maybe he was just happy to be recognized?
If you know him, ask him, then let us know...
Anyway,he then went on his way upstairs, smiling too!It was a fun moment!

After Bloomies, we walked through to FAO, down 5th ave. I wished that I could add a smell of that area to the blog. The distinct smell of HORSE and the chestnuts roasting on an open fire, along with the NYC pretzels.
We stopped in Bergdorf Goodman and I met a few designers and talked with some hoity toities (stuck up in the clouds rich and otherwise well off people who retain ATTITUDES!)There is something strange about snobby well to do hot shots.
It was a silly site to see some very oddly dressed woman trying on shoes that cost on average $560.00 There were some very lovely woman there as well, but the one I kept looking at the most was wearing some very off the wall outfit.
There were some COOL jeweled shoes there.I found a pair that I liked, with quilted cork platforms, but of course they do not even make my size, (I am guessing) and where would I wear them to anyway?!

We checked out the clearance rack where they had a "sale". I wouldn't call it a sale, but I guess that is what they want *shoppers* to believe! If a sale for a shoe is $480.00.... I could host an AMAZING party for that much money!

The jewelry was divine, although some of it looked like slime.
There was a Spaniard designer there that had a collection on display of organic designs. I fell for a STUNNING berry brooch with a berry dangle and large leaves!
I found one bracelet that was 'only' $47,000.00 (Forty Seven THOUSAND US dollars!)When I looked away, the sales lady started to rattle off the contents of the piece... It was TOO expensive for what it was! I turned to my friend as we walked away and I just said, we can get a hot car for that price...

*sigh*
At least their window displays are AWESOME!

I met some of the guys that do the windows when I was working at the art store. They "coveted" my jewelry. *Smiles* Well, that is what one of them said! They were very nice to me, trying to encourage me to "Go out there and claim your millions honey." Ah, such is the species of most young gay men with talent and attitude, yet they are fierce designers! *snap* *snap*

After a few more rounds around the store, and being bumped and shoved by eager tourists, we left Bergies and went over to Bendel's. It was so crowded, so we only peered in from the window.The window display was very odd and cool. It was a FLOCK of hundreds of altered peter pan looking dolls made to look like faeries. They are wrapped around tree branches? Or tied together to mimic tree branches?The pictures that I took did not come out well because the window was lit red.

Abercrombie and Fitch had 3 young guys standing in the entrance looking like mannequins.
Little girls and preteens were going ga ga and taking their chance at touching them and posing for pictures.

I popped into Lindt real quick to get some free truffles for some buddies.(Please, don't buy them for me, I do not eat them... yuck!)

The De Beers (Diamonds) building was bling bling blinging! Little strobe lights flashing at the base of strands of white light bundles.

It was LOVELY.

And I believe it was Fendi?, that had a gorgeous set of lights on the facade in the way of filigree belts with buckles.

Cartier was wrapped in the usual big red bow, with tumbling boxes on the facade.

We then passed a few more spots and walked through Rockefeller Plaza.
*WOW* the tree was all aglow and BRIGHT.

It was like a circus there. SERIOUSLY!

They had a slew of people dressed up in costumes taking photos with kids and stuff.We then went into Rock, toured the basement, watched the ice skaters through the window, then left the Rock, and took a break across the street... But first we ran into Maison Du Chocolate (spelling?) where you can get an assortment of fine chocolates for $60.00 a pound... I'd rather have art supplies at $60.00 a pound, thank you very much!

After a snack break, we headed back into the Rock- and took a train Downtown.
Spent the next few hours in Barnes and Noble and had a fun time chatting with a lady who is taking metalsmith classes at SVA.

I bought a cool book by, Tim McCreight and then we went back to the neighborhood.
I left out many great details about my day, but I figured that I would just give you the lowdown and the highlights!

Prisma color Design markers are THE best!
I have not yet tried the Tria, so I cannot comment!

The sticker above, was designed on a wine box, with acrylic paint. I then scanned it, and made multiple stickers with it.
