INTERNATIONAL Call for Charm Artists! Spread the cheer/news for ' Charm Day. We're looking for tutorials and pictures of handmade artistic charms. Made of ANY MEDIUM that can be worn or used in a project or as a decoration.
ANY skill level!
Photos of handmade charm jewelry and other projects incorporating art charms are needed too.
If you would like to promote a giveaway on your website or blog, you'll can sign up for the list to advertise it on our sites, there is a deadline of March 12th, to let me know if you will be participating.
Start sharing the news now.
Blog about it, talk about it with your friends, in your art groups, tell your art buddies, younger children, big kids and older people who may be interested in participating too.

I made myself a treat!-A bird perched on a blossoming branch- using polymer clay and some small Swarovski stones.

A small heart, leaves, branches, blossoms, snowflakes, a bird and some roses. Studded with Swarovski rhinestones. This is a bead that I created for myself today. I used the side of a razor blade, a pin and an awl to sculpt everything.

Jenny Holiday is always posting pics to Pinterest that I find to be fascinating and very PRETTY!<--(Click here to see her Pinterest board.) but I had no idea what Pinterest really was or how it worked. Then I started noticing others who were using it as well, via Facebook.

One of the birds that lives on my window sill is wheezing while it breathes. I can here it through the plastic divider on the side of the air conditioner. It sneezes too and sounds like a baby with a cold.

I'm hoping it gets well soon. I've never heard the birds on the sill get sick like this before.

Each of these pieces is about 10-15 millimeters wide, at the base of the cupcake.

Less than 1/2 inch wide!!!

The flowers are made from polymer clay.

I have added in one of my first frosted cupcakes-

Today, I taught 3 classes...

Well, it's going to be 11:11 11/11/11 in a few minutes. Since it only happens 2x every 1,000 years, I figured I would log in and write about my day

It was a pretty good day. The weather was a bit cold, but nice and clear out.

I saw a childhood friend and met her daughter, taught 3 back to back jewelry classes and I had a really nice time with it.

I luck out with the coolest students!

My sister has advanced to the next level at trying to obtain a very good scholarship (FULL TUITION!) to a very good college. I am hoping for the best- it would be an AMAZING blessing if she got it.

I've been learning a lot of cool techniques this week and have been practicing some new ideas too. So far, I am crocheting a fun new pair of wrist warmers and a matching hat!

I'll post photos between next month and January- because I want to give these as gifts and keep it as a surprise.

I work with some really awesome people and they've been keeping me entertained and smiling a lot. I am grateful.

My polymer work is getting even more detailed and I look forward to sharing it soon!

It's the holiday season! Inspiring me to create more art to wear!
I purchased a whole lot of goodies to bead with from my local art store last week.

These are some of the things I designed.
I've been playing some fun music with upbeat lyrics to sing along to while I work.
It makes the tiny repeating bead patterns more bearable! :o)

I was watching "Tetro" while designing the necklace and bracelet. It played out like an artistic telenovela! :) Great cinematography!

I may not have been able to be at Art Is... this past week, but I was there in spirit!

So many of my wonderful and talented friends and online art connections were at Art Is... in Danbury, CT. this past week/end and I really wanted to be there too! But I was teaching classes, Saturday through Monday, so I would have missed the fun!

Miniatures are small.
So often, people try hard to comprehend the scale of many of my pieces. It's hard to do unless you see them in person.

Perhaps this is a more suitable perspective for the scale of my work? Rather than placing them on a coin or next to a ruler.
All of these pieces have been hardened.
More often than not I take photos prior to curing the polymer clay so that I can capture it right after I create it. Some of these pieces got squished or bent a bit before hardening. I don't care about that though.

The joy for me, is in the creating of the pieces.
I will say however, WOW, what fun stuff!- despite the flaws!
None of it is silicone- it is all polymer clay.

This is a prototype of a miniature book, I made this summer, using my own
custom blended colors of polymer clay.
The piece does not look as beautiful in the photos as it does in person.
I wish you could see it in these photos. the way I see it with my eyes.
The colors are warmer and softer in person and the Swarovski stones *bling*
and the gold mica shines brightly!

I am so glad that you are here.
I've constructed quite a few pieces out of the ingredients that my partner for this event has sent me!
Since we are allowed to make more than one item, I made a bunch!
The inspiration was endless!
I really like the challenge of having to create beaded creations from a random set of beads, a clasp and a focal bead- within a deadline!

This piece was "modeled" by a young lady and her friend, who was holding it over her ' tummy for the photo. I made a whole new gang of friends while making jewelry outdoors yesterday. When I say gang I mean- 10+ kids! It was nice having an enthusiastic audience.
I shared some of my machine cut faceted crystal teardrops and some other beads with the girls.

I was admiring the work of a local florist/artist last night.

Nature is naturally beautiful, yes, but to be able to arrange it

and manipulate it to create a statement or sculpture always impresses me.

My husband installed a cool wooden art cabinet that he created.

He inspires me!

He's an amazing human being!

There is a question that I, and most artists, are faced with each time we create something wonderful, "Should I keep it or let it go?

That goes for our arsenal of supplies as well!

Art is subjective.
We love it, some question it, some even analyze it.
Some people who question art and the motives of artists often seek answers that sometimes don't even amount to much.
"Why did that artist put that there, what was the meaning of the placement?"
I'll be honest with you, some artists don't think about WHY they are putting something in a specific place, other than the fact that it suits them to do so because they find it visually pleasing. >.<

Each piece, is a recording of time, history, emotion, inspiration, thoughts and ideas.

Some art, may not necessarily be the type of work that strikes a chord within my heart but I still find it amazing.

Last night I was admiring the work of a young H.S. student, who put together a really spooky Halloween scene within a "carved out" plastic pumpkin, which will be for sale at a store.

It was so well done. It was like a miniature movie set or stage scene which was intricately arranged. Someone will be buying it and feeling the warm fuzies inside. >.<

Irene was a "mild" hurricane by the time it reached my city, but fierce enough that the trees in our town suffered a bit.

I'm very glad that the storm was not as vicious as was anticipated. So very thankful that we were spared.

The birds outside my window keep losing their babies each time we have a heavy rain storm.

Yet, they continue on and on, they keep trying, building or repairing nest after nest...

They both pitch in. The birds work so hard. I listen to them "talking" to each other. Sometimes they sound like they are annoyed at each other. Sometimes it sounds as if they are complaining about us turning the light on in the middle of the night.

Most of the time they are really affectionate towards one another. I like them.

Metalliferous ALERT- To all of you Metalliferous fans and long time buyers!---

If you are planning a trip into Manhattan, just to visit the shop, you might be a bit upset at the size of the space. You might prefer to visit their website and order from there instead! Metalliferous has *significantly* downsized & has moved upstairs to the 3rd floor! They no longer occupy the 2nd floor, there is no more bead room(s) and the huge areas in "the back", past the counter is now in the front and is *VERY* limited on stock. It is so small in comparison! Basically, the shopping area is now equivalent to the old space that was the entrance- where the counter started and ended in the front. THAT IS *IT*. The staff is as friendly as they were before. Martha is no longer there. PS- Although I've never used their bathroom, many customers have, in the past. They are no longer letting customers use their restroom. If you need to use one to wash up, after getting your hands dirty- use one of the wet wipes on the counter or- run up the block to Barnes and Noble or to Subway the sandwhich shop, which is just below Metalliferous on the ground floor.

The good news is that they have started a mail order, online catalog for you to shop through. So, that at least helps!

I picked up a Barbie doll at a classic car/ flea market event this weekend.
I needed to show the scale of the work I've been doing lately. 1:6 play scale size.

I don't know about you, but I am hiding from the sun right now!
My little sister is a happy little clam, spending her day at the beach!

I cannot do my scheduled work because of the hot hot hot environment so I am feeling like a kid who is skipping school to work on some art projects and do some cleaning up around the place. I just made these. Polymer clay cane work, for me, is best in this hot hot hot heat. The canes reduce so easily!

There has been an increase in full rainbows that can be seen from our home this year. I had some time to grab my camera and shoot the one I saw yesterday.

The colors were far more intense and vibrant in person! At one point, while the 2nd rainbow was forming, it looked like the first rainbow was getting even more layers/stripes of purple and some other non visible color. (indigo?) It was very 3D, unlike the photos which are so dull and flat looking.

This is a small display that I created for the Blythe Doll Convention that happened last week.
They do look yummier in person I think.
You can imagine them as cake, ice cream or candy confections on a stick! Aside from the gloss, gold leafing and wooden sticks, these are 100 percent polymer clay. No paint and no silicone was used to create these.

I took the photos in a rush before I mailed them off so they aren't the best shots, so, I posted a bunch because some have clearer images of specific pops.
They were designed for doll house and doll play time. They can be converted to wearable charms. I do accept custom orders so if you'd like one made for you, let me know!

Hi Everyone!
It's been a very busy weekend!
I worked nonstop until today, on getting in some last minute submissions to a new Polymer clay magazine in the Netherlands. The ladies that run the magazine are so cheerful and friendly which makes working so hard on these projects for them, so very worth the time and energy! Mini cakes and slices of cake!... The issue will be out later this summer!

How easy is it to make these polymer clay miniatures?

For those who wonder how easy or difficult it is for me to make these sculptures out of polymer clay, especially on a hot day- get some marshmallow fluff, some taffy, chocolate chips, warm caramel and some pudding. Put some on a plate or some wax paper and try to make a miniature art cake out of it. Don't let anything but the taffy touch your hands or it will melt and stick to you which will distort the work. You can use a skewer, a toothpick, a fork, knife and spoon to work with. That is what it's like. ;o)

I still have to master the icing evenness and height, the puff pastry texture...

That is my pinky (little finger) nail in the photo.
The detail is so fine, you can not see it with the naked eye. ;o)

How do miniaturists keep dust and micro bits of fibers from polluting their work?
I think I want to work in a "clean room"- the kind that is used for making microchips, dust free!

Here are some pieces that I've been experimenting with. The heat makes it hard to work with the clay because it melts the fine details, even if I barely touch the piece!

I'm posting these photos to share what I've been playing around with.
The pieces aren't planned, they just happen. I don't yet measure out the pieces, so everything is free form. No specific scale. I still need to figure out how to scale everything... Anyone know what the correct size of a cupcake should be at 1:12 scale?

Think of these as prototypes.
All a work in progress, experiments and just for fun!
100% polymer clay, no silicone, no resin, no air dry, this is all just polymer clay.

Before you judge my work as sloppy or messy,

This is not easy to do. If it were.
my work would look spectacularly perfect.
I am still practicing! And that is my small finger in each photo, my pinky.

I'm just as interested in action being taken against the food terrorists as I am the armed terrorists. Bio-tech weapons in the form of genetically modified foods are as dangerous to us.
Spraying our foods until they are saturated with chemicals is DISGUSTING!
WE ARE NOT MODIFIED to resist the damage the chemicals do!
What the plants can resist after being modified and altered in their DNA structure, we cannot. We are not able to live as long without aches, pains, medicines, high BP, headaches, organ failure etc. without the aid of more chemicals to trick our body into being well. Cancer is no longer a one to/in many ratio. Unusual and new diseases are surfacing because of the large consumption of modified and processed foods. Not only are processed foods dead, lacking in live energy, it is full of pesticides and altered DNA! If you eat nonsense, your body will react to that nonsense by breaking down.
You cannot soak or wash away chemicals that have saturated your fruits, vegetables and your grains. America, your meats and dairy products are contaminated with chemicals that have been digested by animals who have been fed the chemically saturated plants and grains. If you eat animal fat, and it is not organic, you are eating pesticides that have been stored inside of the fat cells. Would you spray your food with bug spray before serving it to your family at meal time?!

I truly hope that the nonsense and foolishness GETS SWALLOWED UP BY TIME AND SPACE AND SHORTLY, NO LONGER EXISTS! May their money and resources wither away, the way they have made nature rot and wither. I do, so hope, that nature fights back at THEM and wins.

What a story!

The film was ever so slightly vapid but mostly gloriously colorful and full of FUN!!!

I had no idea the movie would be like this. It was nothing like I expected it to be.

Unless you are made of stone you will cry, mostly towards the end so have a tissue box with you or one sheet of Bounty (paper towel)! But it isn't a bad type of cry. It's a good and healthy kind. The kind that reminds you that you have a heart!

I cannot tell whether I will see this movie again. For me it was enough to see it just once. But that is how I feel about it now after just seeing it.

Perhaps, after some time passes, I may want to see the beautiful cinematography and lovely scenery once more.

The movie is a strong reminder of how precious and strong the human spirit is when faced with choices of the heart.

Next to my pinky nail (Smallest fingernail on the human hand)

Not feeling too bad about the details that are in need of fine tuning.
I see the general shape of the clay while working on them but not the details.
When I start to work in the sunlight and have more practice, the details will be impressive and look more realistic. For now, it's all about the impression of features and details and practice of manipulating the clay at this scale.

It's a bit different than making small embellishments or cupcakes because I have to work a bit longer at making the limbs close to the same dimensions as one another. It may sound easy, to some, but I need some more practice with it! They are so small and the nature of the clay is to get softer the more it is warmed up... So my hands warm up the itty bitty clay very easily while working with it, too much in fact sometimes which is something I have to work on- I need more practice!

His hands, for now, are just slotted/notched and that is because he might be the motorbike rider to the micro motorbike I am working on. The handle bars from the bike will fit into the notches.

My tools- a razor blade, a pin, polymer clay, my reading glasses, my hands and 28 or 30 gauge wire.

:o) I hope that there are people out here reading my blog that find this fun or fascinating.

I was thinking of making it a girl, but left the anatomy a mystery until I find out what kind of clothes I can make!

The limbs will be corrected. They got all goofy towards the end.

The clay must have been too warm or something at the time.

There is no anatomically correct figure here, just a very tiny sculpture made of polymer clay that will be fixed and then sanded, painted and given some type of wardrobe.

I can imagine it wearing a cap or hat of some sort.
Wigging it is not something I am thinking about yet. It's too small to get that detailed without some sort of magnifier.
Well, I am using drug store glasses and don't really see all the fine details with them.
The magnifier lamps make me dizzy so I don't use them.

Anyway- I am on a hunt for a #15 and #16 tatting crochet hook.
I already have all of the other numbers so if you have the 15 and 16 and would like to barter or sell the needles to me, message me!

I would buy them from the internet but the shipping fees are higher than the cost of 2 needles combined!

Dolls the size of my pinky nail... :o)

I made this doll just now.

It's only a rough version.

It needs to be baked, sanded and then painted. THEN dressed.

I started making micro dolls and thought that I could easily crochet them little dresses made of thread... So- now I need to find a #15 0.6mm and just discovered that a size #16 0.4mm exists!!! I want these crochet/tatting hooks. I found them for sale online but the shipping costs 2x the amount of a needle so if anyone has them or can find them in a local store and ship them to me for regular first class shipping, that would be great! OR if you are in NYC and know where to find them, I can get them here!
